WHO
The Boston Education Fund (BEDF) is a 501(c)3 K-12 education fund that has served as the fiscal sponsor for Boston Public Schools (BPS) since 1984. With new leadership at the helm, our mission has evolved to include a strategic fundraising partnership with BPS, with a focus on promoting educational equity across the district.
We believe that the foundation of resource allocation and support should rest on active engagement and proactive collaboration with the community, with a focus on groups that have historically faced marginalization, exclusion, and underrepresentation.
Our aim is clear: to guarantee fair distribution of resources and comprehensive support for every BPS student.
Welcome, to EdQuity Boston.
WHAT AND WHY
EdQuity Boston serves as a dynamic fundraising movement. It’s crafted to strengthen educational equity by amplifying community voices and redefining how resources are allocated within BPS. EdQuity Boston’s goal is to reimagine the relationships between all BPS decision makers, shift toward a more equitable resource allocation process, centered around BPS students, and promote a reflective and inclusive educational ecosystem in Boston.
Recognizing that traditional philanthropy and fundraising support strategies often mirrors the priorities of its benefactors, we are charting a different course. We are
committed to a philanthropic approach that not only acknowledges but actively
incorporates the perspectives of those directly impacted by our work, ensuring a truly equitable and inclusive model of support.
Through EdQuity Boston, we can innovatively disrupt the relationships between those who hold the power and those impacted.
HOW
We understand that for meaningful transformation to occur within Boston Public Schools,
systemic change is essential. EdQuity Boston is set to disrupt the current paradigm by
amplifying community voices, thereby enabling them to wield their influence to drive change.
Through engaging events, experiences, and workshops, our campaign will not only allow the community to generate funds for BPS, but it also introduces an annual portal where
community members can actively decide on the allocation of the funds raised.
